Setting up your first AI agent: step by step

From creating an account to giving your first assignment. A practical guide to setting up your own AI agent and putting it to work right away.

Preparation

Before you start, think about two things: 1. What language should your agent speak? 2. What is the first task you want to hand off?

You do not have to figure everything out in advance. You can always adjust the configuration. But with a clear first goal, you will get started faster.

Step 1: Create an account

Go to aiagent.nl and create an account with your email address. Confirm your email and you are ready to begin.

Step 2: Choose a language

Your agent can communicate in any language. Choose the language that best fits your use case. Dutch for local customers, English for international, or let the agent automatically respond in the user's language.

Step 3: Set tone and name

Give your agent a name and choose a communication style. Options range from business-formal to informal and friendly. This determines how your agent writes and responds.

Tips: - Choose a name that fits your brand - An informal tone works better for most businesses - You can always adjust this later

Step 4: Set talents

Talents are behavioral rules for your agent. For example: - Always respond in the user's language - Keep answers short and concrete - Ask a clarifying question if the assignment is unclear - Avoid jargon

You can choose from preset rules or write your own.

Step 5: Activate skills

Skills are specific tasks your agent can perform. Depending on your plan, you have access to: - Summarizing - Writing emails - Processing meeting notes - Code review - Data analysis - Drafting legal documents - Creating social media content

Turn on what you need. You can always add or disable skills later.

Step 6: Your first assignment

Your agent is running. Open the chat and give your first assignment. Start with something concrete:

  • "Summarize this text in 5 bullets: [paste text]"
  • "Write an email to a customer asking for a delay. Tone: understanding but clear."
  • "Create a LinkedIn post about our new product. Max 100 words, informal tone."

After the first week

After a few days of use, you will notice patterns: - Which tasks do you give most often? - Where is the output directly usable? - Where do you need to steer a lot?

Use those insights to refine your configuration. Adjust the talents, activate extra skills, and experiment with different assignments.

Adding channels

Once your agent works well via web chat, consider enabling additional channels: - Telegram - Send quick messages on the go - Slack - Integration into your team communication - WhatsApp - Reachable for customers - Google Chat - Integration with Google Workspace

Every channel talks to the same agent. The context and memory are shared.

Frequently asked questions

How long does setup take? The wizard takes 5 minutes. Your agent is available immediately after that.

Can I adjust the configuration later? Yes, everything is adjustable: name, tone, language, skills, talents.

What if the agent gets something wrong? Give feedback. "That answer was too long" or "Use a more formal tone." The agent learns from your corrections.

Do I need to be technical? No. The interface is a chat window. If you can send an email, you can use an AI agent.
